ZANU PF Intensifies Grassroots Mobilisation Ahead of National Cell Day
ZANU PF has stepped up nationwide mobilisation ahead of National Cell Day on June 27, with Gweru District officials urging members, affiliates and prospective supporters to participate in the membership verification, recruitment and digital registration exercise aimed at strengthening grassroots party structures.
Gweru — ZANU PF has intensified membership mobilisation across the country ahead of Saturday's National Cell Day, with party structures in Gweru District calling on members, affiliates and prospective supporters to participate in what has become one of the ruling party's flagship grassroots organisational programmes.
The exercise, to be held on June 27, forms part of the party's nationwide membership verification, recruitment and digital registration campaign aimed at strengthening structures at the lowest level of its organisation.
Speaking ahead of the programme, Gweru District Coordinating Committee (DCC) Secretary for Information and Publicity, Victor Maride, urged residents from all walks of life to participate, saying the exercise was open to both existing and prospective party members.
"As ZANU PF, we are conscientising and inviting everyone in the Gweru District to participate in the National Cell Day on Saturday, 27 June.
"This is a national programme where we are inviting almost everyone in the district, whether employed or not, to come and participate in the affairs of the party," he said.
Maride said the exercise presents an opportunity for the party to update its membership database while welcoming new members into its grassroots structures.
"Like you all know, ZANU PF is the biggest party in the southern hemisphere, so we are appealing to all those who are not yet in our registers or database to come on board, be recorded, be counted and become part of us," said Maride.
Introduced in 2022, the National Cell Day has become a key organisational programme within ZANU PF, with every member, from the President and First Secretary to ordinary grassroots members, expected to attend meetings at their respective party cells.
The exercise focuses on auditing membership, recruiting new members, verifying voter registration status and strengthening grassroots structures.
This year's programme follows an earlier National Cell Day held in January after the party directed provinces to further verify and audit their cell structures where shortcomings had been identified during previous verification exercises.
Party leadership has indicated that provinces are expected to submit audited membership registers corresponding with polling station records as part of efforts to improve organisational efficiency.
Maride also appealed to affiliate organisations aligned to the ruling party to transition from affiliate status into full party membership.
"We are inviting all affiliates in the Gweru District to come, be registered and be counted.
"We have given a mandate to our affiliates to mobilise for the party, and now those people being mobilised must become part of the party structure through the cell," he said.
"You have been mobilising for the party. The party is now taking stock and accounting for its people.
"This is the time for everyone to become a ZANU PF member rather than remaining only an affiliate," Maride said.
ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, said the National Cell Day is designed to strengthen grassroots structures while advancing the party's digitisation programme, ensuring every member is properly captured in a digital membership register.
He has described the cell as the foundation of the party's organisational system and the primary platform through which mobilisation and community engagement are conducted.
Party officials have also said the programme provides local cell leaders with an opportunity to discuss community development priorities, including schools, health facilities, roads and other issues affecting residents, while reinforcing communication between grassroots members and higher party structures.
