Chibaya Receives Death Threats Over Planned Anti-CAB3 Meeting
Former opposition MP Amos Chibaya says he fears for his life after receiving an alleged arson and death threat linked to a planned anti-CAB3 meeting.
Harare — Former opposition legislator Hon. Amos Chibaya says he fears for his safety after receiving death threats allegedly linked to a meeting which was planned to oppose Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3).
Chibaya says he reported the matter to Milton Park Police Station after receiving a threatening message warning him not to proceed with a planned political meeting that had been scheduled.
The message allegedly threatened that if the meeting went ahead, he would be killed in an arson attack, warning that his house would be set on fire.
Part of the threat message.
"I am fearing for my life," Chibaya reportedly said after filing the police report, adding that officers had informed him that investigations into the matter were underway.
The alleged threat comes amid heightened political tensions surrounding the proposed constitutional amendments.
In 2025, the SAPES Trust was firebombed ahead of a scheduled meeting to oppose ZANU PFs 2030 agenda.
National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku and several party activists were violently assaulted by armed men at the party's offices in Harare on March 1, 2026, for meeting to oppose CAB3.
Several critics of CAB3 have claimed they have faced intimidation, threats and violence for opposing the legislation.
Police have not yet publicly commented on the reported threat or announced any arrests.
