Australia’s Biggest Cat and Dog Festival Returns This August
Tickets for the 2026 Sydney Cat and Dog Lovers Festivals will launch on National Pet Day, offering enthusiasts a dual-access pass to elite breed showcases, interactive zones, and high-energy animal entertainment at the Sydney Showground this August.
Sydney - Australia’s premier celebration of domestic pets is set to return to the Sydney Showground this August, with organisers announcing that tickets for the 2026 Cat and Dog Lovers Festivals will officially go on sale on National Pet Day, April 11.
The dual-event format allows a single ticket to grant access to both festivals on August 23 and 24, transforming the venue into a massive hub for animal education, entertainment and retail.
The 2026 iteration is expected to be the largest to date, featuring expanded breed showcases and a marketplace dedicated to both major and boutique pet brands.
The Dog Lovers Festival will feature the return of the VitaPet Arena, where high-performance canines demonstrate agility and specialised training.
High-intensity aquatic sports will also be a centerpiece, as the Kurgo DockDogs competition sees canine athletes competing in long jump and speed retrieval into a massive onsite pool.
Event Director, Paul Mathers, noted that the timing of the ticket launch aligns with the core mission of the festivals.
“National Pet Day is all about celebrating the incredible role pets play in our lives, so it’s the ideal moment to launch tickets for our Sydney Festivals,” Mathers said.
Feline enthusiasts will have access to a dedicated Cat Lovers Festival, centered around an extensive Breed Showcase.
The area allows visitors to interact with a wide variety of cats, ranging from rare aesthetic breeds to popular household favorites, while consulting with professional breeders.
Both festivals will focus on animal welfare through dedicated Adoption Zones.
The spaces provide a platform for rescue organisations to connect with potential owners and share information on providing "forever homes" for animals in need.
“In 2026, we’re delivering our biggest events yet, with more breeds, more experts and more opportunities for visitors to connect, learn and be inspired,” Mathers said.
Interactive elements remain a primary draw for the weekend, including the Pat-A-Pooch and Pat-A-Cat zones.
The supervised areas are designed to provide hands-on experiences for visitors, particularly those looking to research specific breeds before committing to ownership.
Organisers have reminded prospective attendees that for health and safety reasons, personal pets are not permitted to attend the event.
The festival is designed for human visitors to interact with the hundreds of showcase animals provided by professional exhibitors and rescue groups.
Organisers say early bird pricing will be available when sales commence this Saturday.
The weekend program also includes a comprehensive schedule of expert talks and educational workshops focused on pet health, behavior and nutrition.
