Australian Primary Schools Celebrate National Primary Education Week 2026
The Australian Primary Principals Association has launched National Primary Education Week to highlight the role of primary education and parent-teacher partnerships in child development.

Canberra, Australia — Primary schools across Australia have commenced community open-door events, student-led forums and exhibitions to mark the start of National Primary Education Week ( running from 3–7 August, 2026.
Organised by the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA), which represents over 7,600 school leaders nationwide, the campaign aims to highlight the foundational role early schooling plays in developing literacy, numeracy and social resilience.
APPA President, Angela Falkenberg, says this year's focus highlights the essential collaboration between educators and families to optimise student outcomes.
“Teachers bring expertise in child development, learning and wellbeing, and parents bring knowledge of their child that no one else has,” Falkenberg said.
“When these two forms of expertise come together, children flourish," she said.
Child development expert, Professor Frank Oberklaid, echoed these sentiments, urging parents to engage directly with teaching staff to extend learning strategies into the home environment.
The initiative will culminate on Friday, 7 August, with Australian Primary Principals Day, recognising the leadership role principals fulfill within local communities.
