Dynamos Overcome Early Scare to Claim Victory Over TelOne at Ascot

Gweru - Dynamos FC initiated their 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign with a resilient 2-1 victory over TelOne FC on Sunday, overcoming both a spirited opponent and treacherous pitch conditions at Ascot Stadium.

The season opener was nearly derailed by morning rain in the Midlands capital, which left the Ascot turf in a precarious state.

The match was supposed to take place yesterday afternoon, Saturday, but was rescheduled to Sunday morning due to pitch water logging.

Following a high-stakes inspection this morning by PSL Chief Executive Officer, Rodwell Thabe, accompanied by match officials, the match was given the green light, much to the relief of a few traveling Dynamos fans.

The "Wifi Boys", as TelOne FC is affectionately known, wasted no time asserting their home-field advantage.

Within just two minutes of the opening whistle, Jerry Chipangura capitalized on a defensive opening to slot home the first goal of the season.

TelOne continued to press early on, with Leeroy Murape’s footwork causing significant problems for the Dynamos backline.

The hosts looked poised to double their lead until the visitors found their rhythm midway through the first half.

Dynamos restored parity in the 21st minute through Frank Agyemang from an assist by Perfect Chikwende, reacting fast in a crowded penalty area to level the scores.

The momentum shifted decisively in the 35th minute following a critical error by TelOne goalkeeper, Takudzwa Chikosi.

After being dispossessed in a dangerous area, Chikosi could only watch as Jairos Kasondo turned the ball into the net to complete the comeback.

The second half saw TelOne coach, Herbert Maruwa, make some changes, introducing Tyrone Matongorere, Bruno Mtigo and Blessing Matebeck to inject fresh energy into the attack.

Despite several TelOne clear-cut chances, including a late sliding effort from Chipangura in the 82nd minute that narrowly missed the target, the equaliser for the home side didn't materialise.

On the other hand, the TelOne defense, anchored by captain Frank Makarati, remained disciplined to prevent further damage on the counter-attack.

The match ended 2-1 in favour of the Harare visitors.

Elsewhere in the PSL on Saturday, Ngezi Platinum Stars got the better of FC Platinum at Baobab Stadium, winning 2-1; Herentals shared spoils with Chicken Inn after a 1-all draw at Rufaro Stadium, while Triangle United lost to ZPC Kariba 1-0 at Gibbo Stadium.

On Sunday, Caps United got the better of PSL rookies Agama FC 2-1 at Rufaro Stadium; Simba Bhora beat Manica Diamonds 1-0 at Gibbo Stadium; the much-hyped clash between Scottland FC and PSL newcomers Hard Rock FC ended in a nil-all draw at the newly built Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe, while Highlanders and PSL returnees Bulawayo Chiefs also shared the spoils after a 1-all result at Barbourfields Stadium.
