Scottland FC Jersey Signed by President Mnangagwa Auctioned for US$1 Million
In a historic auction at Scottland FC's 2026 kit unveiling in Harare, a jersey personally signed by Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa, including his liberation struggle prison number, was purchased for US$1 million by Sakunda Holdings and Fossil Contracting.
Harare - In a landmark moment that fuses Zimbabwean football with national history, a Scottland FC jersey personally signed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa was auctioned for an unprecedented US$1 million during the club's kit unveiling ceremony on Friday, February 27.
The joint purchase by Sakunda Holdings and Fossil Contracting sets a new benchmark for sports memorabilia in the region, a commitment to youth development, community welfare and honoring the country's liberation struggle, some pundits say.
The jersey, bearing Mnangagwa's signature alongside his prison number 841/66 from his incarceration during the fight for independence, symbolizing the sacrifices made for Zimbabwe's freedom.
The auction took place amid fanfare at the club's glamorous kit launch, attended by dignitaries, football enthusiasts and international celebrity Rick Ross, whose presence amplified the event's global appeal.
Founded in 2023 and based in Mabvuku, Harare, Scottland FC, often dubbed the "Pride of Mabvuku", has rapidly ascended the ranks of Zimbabwean football.
Owned by businessman and ZANU-PF politician, Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya, the club clinched the Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) title in 2024, earning promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) for the 2025 season.
In a stunning debut, but not surprising, they captured the 2025 PSL championship, becoming only the second team in history to win the league in their inaugural top-flight campaign.
The victory, sealed with a resounding 5-1 triumph in their final match, positioned them for the CAF Champions League, where they've already secured a US$1.5 million sponsorship from Ecobank.
