Junction Pool Club has continued its impressive form in the 2026 Zvishavane Pool Association season, remaining unbeaten after four matches and sitting at the top of League A with 12 points.
Formed in 2025, the club is already emerging as a strong contender in only its second season.
After finishing fourth out of 12 teams in their debut campaign last year, Junction has stepped up in a league that has now expanded to 24 teams, divided into League A and League B.
In their latest match, Junction secured a dominant 14–2 victory, highlighting both their consistency and growing confidence.
“We started on a good tempo and everyone is playing at their level best.
"There is clear improvement in the squad, and we will continue playing friendly matches to sharpen our skills and maintain consistency,” the team's Manager, Jabulani Sibanda said.
The season, which began in March, is expected to run until November, with top teams battling for playoff positions.
Junction’s next test is a crucial away fixture against second-placed Ballers of Club Downtown, a match likely to determine early dominance in League A.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Chigova, the Zvishavane District Development Officer in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, emphasised the role of sport in shaping positive communities.
“Sport immensely reduces time of exposure to bad activities such as drug and substance abuse and improves physical and mental health,” he said, encouraging clubs to register with the Zimbabwe Youth Council for formal recognition.
Echoing similar sentiments, Courage Maimba, the Zvishavane Pool Association Secretary General said pool has evolved into more than just a recreational activity in the district.
“The game of pool has translated into organised competitive structures which support daily livelihoods.
"It is now a crucial source of income for many families through tournament prizes,” he said.
Maimba added that regular tournaments in Zvishavane provide opportunities for top performers to win prize money that contributes meaningfully to household incomes.
He also noted that teams pay an annual affiliation fee of $100, which is channelled towards prize money and facilitating winners to compete at national level.
Beyond the economic benefits, he said the league is playing a key role in strengthening social bonds.
“The Zvishavane pool league has come as a catalyst for fostering camaraderie among players and the wider community.
"During weekends, when league matches are played, young people are kept constructively engaged, reducing idleness and protecting them from risks such as drug and substance abuse,” Maimba said.
He further highlighted that the sport is enhancing skills development among young players by exposing them to mentorship opportunities within the game.
Looking ahead, Maimba confirmed that the top three teams from the Zvishavane league will qualify for the national Champions League tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Hwange from December 12 to 13.
He also called for increased corporate support to sustain and grow the sport.
“We hope to see more sponsors coming on board to further support the development of pool in Zvishavane,” he said.
With strong community backing and growing competitiveness, Junction Pool Club will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten run and secure a place among the top teams as they push for league honours and national qualification.
