TelOne FC Fires Maruwa After Winless Season Start
Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League club TelOne Football Club has fired head coach Herbert Maruwa, thanking him for his service while appointing assistant Charles Mutero as interim coach.
Gweru - TelOne Football Club has parted ways with head coach Herbert Maruwa after the Gweru-based Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League side endured a difficult start to the 2026 season.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the club confirmed it had reached a mutual agreement with Maruwa not to renew his contract.
"TelOne Football Club can officially confirm that the club and Head Coach Herbert Maruwa have reached a mutual agreement not to renew his contract," the statement said.
The club expressed gratitude for the coach’s services.
"We would like to express our sincerest appreciation to Coach Maruwa for his unwavering commitment and service during his tenure.
"His contributions have been highly valued, and the club extends its deepest gratitude for the pivotal role he played in the growth and professional development of our players."
The club said they wish him well in his next endeavour.
"As Coach Maruwa moves on to the next chapter of his career we wish him nothing but the very best in his future endeavors."
In the interim, assistant coach Charles Mutero will take charge of the first team as interim head coach while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
"An announcement regarding a permanent successor will be made in due course," the statement noted.
Maruwa’s departure comes amid reports of fan dissatisfaction and poor results for TelOne early in the campaign.
Currently, the club sits on position 16 of the 18 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League team having only amassed 3 points from nine games played so far.
TelOne FC has lost six games, drew three and yet to taste victory in the 2026 season.
