Gweru - Defending Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions, Scottland FC, claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over TelOne FC at Ascot Stadium on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
In a oscillating encounter that showcased both attacking flair and defensive fragility, Scottland secured maximum points on the road despite a spirited fight from the hosts.
The result moves the visitors within a point of league leaders CAPS United after a third successive win, while TelOne FC remain anchored near the bottom of the table.
Terrence Dzvukamanja opened the scoring for Scottland in the 28th minute, capitalising on an early territorial advantage to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.
TelOne FC responded on the second half when Jerry Chipangura headed home in the 48th minute to level the scores at 1-1.
Barely a minute later, however, Emmanuel Ziocha restored Scottland’s lead with a powerful strike, assisted by a sumptuous lay-off from veteran Khama Billiat.
The Wifi Boys refused to lie down. Blessing Matebeck restored parity at 2-2 in the 76th minute with a well-taken goal straight from a freekick just outside the Scottland box, silencing the visiting support.
Not giving up, Scottland captain Walter Musona, introduced from the bench, produced a composed finish in the 84th minute to snatch the winner, sending wild celebrations among the travelling contingent.
Post-match, TelOne coach Herbert Maruwa reflected on his side’s attacking promise while lamenting costly errors.
“I think, again, like the previous game, we managed to score two goals today again, but again, at home, we are trying to use our home advantage,” Maruwa said.
“Even the way we conceded our goals, it was school boy blunders. But I’m happy we can score two goals against Scottland. We are in the right direction.
"I think this is the first time they (Scottland) conceded two goals. So, basically, the team is in the right direction. I’m very happy with the way the guys are scoring. Especially having gone 1-0, 2-1, 2-2, in another lapse of concentration, they managed to get the winner," he said.
"But as a coach, I’m happy with the progress of the game. We need to keep on fighting. One day, we will smile, we are not bad.”
Scottland FC coach Norman Mapeza, meanwhile, praised his players’ mental strength after a game defined by fluctuating momentum and unnecessary concessions.
“It was a difficult game for us today,” Mapeza admitted.
“After taking the lead, we didn’t concede. In the first few minutes of the second half, I think there was some lapse of concentration.
"Then again, we took the lead. Then again, we gave away unnecessary set-pieces. But well done to the boys. It was about that psychological pathway, which is resilience.
"It was brilliant today. We kept pushing. We kept believing. And I’m happy for the boys. Now, we’re done with this game, we are now thinking much about the Highlanders game on Monday," he said.
For TelOne, the performance offered glimpses of improvement in attack but highlighted ongoing defensive vulnerabilities that have plagued their start to the 2026 season.
