Canberra — Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand, His Excellency Joe Tapera Mhishi, will return to Zimbabwe at the end of October, marking the end of his diplomatic tour of duty.

In a notice, Ambassador Mhishi informed chairpersons of Zimbabwean community associations in Australia and New Zealand that he was preparing to leave his post.

He said his tenure had been marked by cooperation with Zimbabweans abroad who shared a vision of a peaceful, united and prosperous country.

“Each time I reached out to you as individuals or as groups, I was always inspired and comforted by the observation that we shared a common vision of a motherland that is peaceful, united and prosperous,” Ambassador Mhishi said.

The Ambassador acknowledged the contribution of Zimbabweans living abroad, highlighting their potential role in national development through investment, philanthropy, skills transfer, technological expertise and remittances.

He encouraged diaspora communities to continue pursuing opportunities that would strengthen their involvement in Zimbabwe’s economic and social development.

“I hope you will, according to your respective capacities and capabilities, continue to explore opportunities that place you in positions of stakeholders in the prosperity and development of your motherland,” he said.

Ambassador Mhishi also recognised Zimbabweans supporting relatives at home through financial assistance and those seeking to contribute to the country through family members, business partners and direct investment.

He wished community members well as they continued working to support themselves, their families and extended relatives.

His departure comes as Zimbabwe continues to engage its diaspora on investment and business opportunities, with communities abroad remaining a source of remittances, expertise and potential capital for development.
