Was Prophet Makandiwa Spiritually Challenged To Miss Chivayo's Death?
Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa’s admission that he was not shown Wicknell Chivayo’s death has sparked debate over prophecy, false prophets and biblical limits on divine revelation, with Dr Masimba Mavaza arguing that admitting “I do not know” reflects prophetic integrity rather than spiritual failure.
The Truth About Prophecy That Has Exposed Fake Prophets
By Dr Masimba Mavaza
Harare — The tragic and untimely passing of businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lulu in a helicopter accident has not only plunged the nation into mourning, but has also ignited a fierce spiritual debate on social media.
Armchair critics have been quick to castigate respected cleric Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa and the Mapositori for failing to "see" the tragedy coming.
The loudest noise is coming from those who claim that true prophets should have warned Chivayo. Even more damning, reports are emerging of "fake prophets who had assured Chivayo that he would live until 2032", giving him a false sense of immortality. But God had His own calendar.
In this storm of judgment, it is critical to separate spiritual populism from biblical truth. The failure to foretell Chivayo's death does NOT discredit Prophet Makandiwa. In fact, it proves his authenticity.
Prophet Makandiwa, with disarming honesty, was very clear: God did not reveal Chivayo's death to him. That is not weakness. That is the very definition of a true prophet.
A true prophet does not see everything. It is God who sees, not the prophet. The prophet only sees what God chooses to reveal. When God chooses to keep silent, the prophet remains silent.
The Bible itself is replete with powerful examples of this divine principle:
1. The Prophet Elisha Did Not Know
When the Shunammite woman's son died, even the great Elisha confessed:
“Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her; and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me." -2 Kings 4:27
If God could hide a matter from Elisha, one of the greatest prophets of Israel, why do we expect Makandiwa to know everything?
2. Daniel Was Told To Shut The Book
Daniel, the seer of empires, cried out for understanding and God told him plainly:
“Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end." -Daniel 12:8-9
God deliberately sealed the revelation. It was not Daniel's failure; it was God's sovereignty.
3. Moses Declared The Secret Things Belong To God
“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us...." -Deuteronomy 29:29
There are things God reserves for Himself. The date of a man's death is one of those secret things.
4. Even The Apostles Were Not Told:
“It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power." -Acts 1:7*
And Jesus Himself declared:
"But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." -Matthew 24:36
Who Then Are The False Prophets?
The death of Chivayo has exposed them. The false prophets are not those who humbly say "God did not show me." The false prophets are those who, for money and favour, assured Chivayo that he would live until 2032, playing God, fixing dates God never fixed, giving false assurance.
A true prophet is humble enough to say, "I do not know." A fake prophet is arrogant enough to say, "I know everything, even what God has hidden."
Prophet Makandiwa's admission is therefore a mark of integrity, not spiritual blindness. He refused to lie. He refused to manufacture a prophecy after the tragedy to appear powerful. He stood on biblical truth: Prophecy is not a CCTV camera; it is a torch that God switches on and off at will.
Let us mourn with compassion. Let us stop the spiritual grandstanding. In death, God remains sovereign. The prophet is merely a messenger, and the message comes only when the Sender speaks. Makandiwa haasi Mwari. Anoto shandiswa na Mwari.
Makandiwa is not God he is only a vessel used by God.
