STEPS Launches Free Night Classes in Cairns for Local Learners
Australia — STEPS has launched free night classes in Cairns through its Skills for Education and Employment Program, helping eligible residents develop reading, writing, numeracy and digital skills outside standard business hours.
Cairns, Australia — Residents unable to attend daytime classes will have greater access to education and skills training following the launch of free night classes under the STEPS Group Australia Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program in Cairns.
The program is aimed at people seeking to improve their reading, writing, numeracy and digital skills for employment, further study and everyday life.
STEPS said the night classes were introduced in response to growing demand for more flexible learning options among people whose work, family and other responsibilities make daytime study difficult.
STEPS Chief Executive Officer, Cassie Stanley, said the initiative was designed to remove some of the barriers preventing people from returning to education.
“There are many members of the community who would like to return to learning for a variety of reasons, such as starting a new career or confidently using technology, but other responsibilities can make this inaccessible,” Stanley said.
The SEE Program is available at no cost to eligible participants and also provides pathways towards nationally recognised qualifications in areas including business, individual support and hospitality, the group said.
Stanley said the program's practical approach was intended to help participants build skills that could be applied directly to work and everyday situations.
“The STEPS SEE Program offers hands-on education and training at no cost to eligible participants, which can open the door to exciting career opportunities or personal growth,” she said.
“Our incredible trainers meet each participant at their individual level of experience and build lessons around real-world scenarios to make training as engaging and practical as possible," Stanley added.
STEPS said the night classes would provide an alternative for Cairns residents who cannot commit to conventional daytime learning while maintaining access to the same practical skills development offered through the SEE Program.
The Skills for Education and Employment Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
