A Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officer, Isheanesu Marima, and six co-accused have been remanded in custody to April 27, 2026, for a possible trial in Gokwe. The group is accused of kidnapping and assaulting commuter operator Calisto Muzofa after he refused to pay an illegal “rank affiliation fee” at Gokwe bus terminus.
GOKWE– A Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officer, Isheanesu Marima, and six co-accused appeared in court yesterday and were remanded in custody to April 27, 2026, for a possible trial in a kidnapping and assault case linked to an alleged extortion syndicate at Gokwe bus terminus.
Marima (38) is jointly charged with Alfreddy Rudende (43), Willard Koke (35), Phillimon Makumbe (52), Farai Chakauya (45), Saul Machona (49) and Thabani Nsingo (44).
The State alleges that on March 30, 2026, the accused confronted commuter omnibus operator Calisto Muzofa (34) and demanded payment of an illegal “rank affiliation fee” to operate at the Gokwe terminus.
When Muzofa refused, the situation allegedly turned violent, with Marima reportedly seizing and smashing the complainant’s cellphone using a pistol butt.
It is further alleged that the group forcibly dragged Muzofa into a vehicle and drove him to a nearby forest close to Gokwe Cotton Company, where they took turns assaulting him with wooden logs in a coordinated attack.
Muzofa sustained multiple injuries and later reported the matter to police. He was referred to Gokwe South District Hospital for medical examination, with a medical report expected to be produced in court.
The prosecutor allege the accused acted with common purpose, pointing to what authorities believe is an organised syndicate targeting transport operators at the rank.
The accused face charges of kidnapping, assault and malicious damage to property. Investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other suspects still at large.
The matter returns to court on Monday, April 27, 2026, for a possible commencement of trial.
