House Committee Holds Public Hearing on Boosting Arts Philanthropy
The House Standing Committee on Communications, the Arts and Sport is convening public hearings to investigate tax settings and structural reforms to increase private giving to Australia's arts sector.

Canberra, Australia — The House Standing Committee on Communications, the Arts and Sport will hold a public hearing at Parliament House on Tuesday, August 4, to examine strategies for expanding private and philanthropic funding across Australia’s cultural sector.
The hearing forms part of the Parliamentary Inquiry into arts and cultural philanthropy and will hear evidence from key public bodies, including the Productivity Commission and Creative Australia.
Committee Chair, Susan Templeman MP, stated that preliminary submissions have identified structural barriers that currently restrict private investment in the arts.
"The evidence we've received points to several recurring issues, from tax settings and access to philanthropic networks to support for regional artists and the effectiveness of existing government programs," Templeman said.
"This hearing will help us examine those ideas in greater detail and hear how government agencies believe Australia can build a stronger culture of arts philanthropy," she said.
Key areas under review include optimising Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) frameworks, broadening philanthropic support for regional creative initiatives and improving coordination between public funding bodies and private benefactors.
