Zimbabwean Moyo takes charge of IFC private-sector portfolio across six African markets
Zimbabwean financial professional Mary-Jean Moyo takes charge of an IFC portfolio covering six African markets, including Zimbabwe, Zambia and the DRC.
Harare — Zimbabwean financial-sector professional Mary-Jean Moyo has taken up a senior regional leadership role at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where she will oversee private-sector investment activities across Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Moyo has been appointed IFC Division Director for the six-country portfolio, placing her at the centre of the World Bank Group institution’s efforts to mobilise private capital and support businesses and investment across a significant part of sub-Saharan Africa.
The IFC is the World Bank Group’s private-sector investment arm, providing financing, investment and advisory support to businesses and financial institutions while working to attract additional private capital into developing economies.
Moyo’s new assignment gives her responsibility for markets with differing investment needs, from expanding access to finance for businesses to supporting private investment in infrastructure, industry and other productive sectors.
For Zimbabwe, her appointment comes against a backdrop of continued efforts to attract investment, strengthen the private sector and expand access to long-term capital needed to support business growth and economic development.
Moyo brings experience from across the financial-services and investment sectors to the new position.
Before her appointment as division director, she served as Chief of Staff to the IFC’s Managing Director, working at the organisation’s senior executive level.
She previously worked in commercial banking in Zimbabwe, before gaining experience at the central bank in Botswana and later moving into private equity.
Her career across commercial banking, central banking, private equity and international development finance gives her experience spanning financial-sector operations, investment and institutional decision-making.
The six-country portfolio under her leadership covers economies with substantial infrastructure, industrialisation and private-sector financing requirements, making mobilisation of investment capital a key component of the IFC’s regional mandate.
Moyo’s appointment therefore represents more than a senior career move, placing a Zimbabwean professional in a position with responsibility for shaping the IFC’s engagement with businesses and investors across six African economies.
For Zimbabwean companies seeking to expand, access capital or attract international investment, the IFC remains one of the major development-finance institutions capable of supporting private-sector projects through investment and advisory interventions.
Moyo’s new role puts her at the intersection of those investment priorities across Zimbabwe and the wider region.
Summary: Zimbabwean financial-sector professional Mary-Jean Moyo has been appointed IFC Division Director overseeing Tanzania, Burundi, DRC, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe, bringing experience in commercial banking, central banking, private equity and senior IFC management to the regional role.
