Gweru - TelOne FC head coach Herbert Maruwa has urged his players to sharpen their mental focus after last weekend's Dynamos setback as the teams seeks to avoid repeating last season’s slip-ups when the Wifi Boys travel to face MWOS FC at Ngoni Stadium on Saturday.

Maruwa, speaking ahead of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture, said the team must bounce back quickly after the Dynamos loss to stay in touch with the early pace-setters.

“We need to prepare ourselves well mentally and make sure we don’t repeat what happened last season.

"After losing three points at home, we need to make sure we bounce back quickly and keep in touch with the leading team,” Maruwa said.

In last weekend's home game at Ascot, he said the team was down, coupled with bad weather.

“The conditions of the pitch and the fighting spirit was there,” he said.

TelOne’s 2026 campaign opened with a 1-2 defeat to Dynamos in a rearranged Matchday 1 clash after a pitch water logging, a result the coach downplayed.

“There wasn’t much to talk about, especially the first game. We did not see anything in terms of tactics,” Maruwa said.

“Thats why we said we are preparing, it's ne game altogether. We are not reading much of the game against Dynamos,”  he said.

MWOS FC meanwhile, began their season with a goalless draw against newcomers FC Hunters at Rufaro Stadium in the capital, Harare, leaving both sides seeking their first league victories of the 2026 campaign.

The encounter carries extra weight because of last season’s head-to-head record. In 2025 the two sides met twice, with MWOS claiming a 1-0 win at TelOne’s home ground, and the reverse fixture ending in a draw.

Maruwa believes his squad is better equipped than the one that finished the previous 2025 league campaign.

"We have a good team compared to the team we had last season. It’s just a question of time before they adjust to the way we want to play,” he said.

He also confirmed plans to introduce young talent, including 16-year-old Trinity Anesu Weluzani, who is set for his first senior run.

“We have youngsters. We have Trinity. A youngster, a 16-year-old boy, we are going to give him a run,” Maruwa said.

With only a handful of matches played, Maruwa said the early fixtures will be decisive as the season progresses.

Kick-off at Ngoni Stadium is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
