Silobela Man Dies after Attempting to Intervene in a Bar Fight
The Zimbabwe Republic Police have apprehended 42-year-old Sikhumbuzo Dunjani in connection with the fatal stabbing of Hillary Nyevera at a business center in Silobela. The victim succumbed to his injuries at Gweru General Hospital several days after the initial assault.
Silobela - The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed the arrest of a 42-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing incident at Mkhayeni Business Centre in Silobela, Kwekwe.
The suspect, Sikhumbuzo Dunjani of Nkomozabo village under Chief Malisa, is expected to face murder charges following the death of 21-year-old Hillary Nyevera.
The incident occurred on April 24, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m. while the deceased was drinking beer at Rocks Night Club.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the violence erupted after a dispute involving the deceased’s friend, Colleen Moyo, and another patron.
When Nyevera attempted to intervene in the ensuing scuffle, he became the target of the suspect’s aggression.
"It is alleged that the now deceased intervened and this angered the suspect, who was watching the fight," Inspector Mahoko stated.
"He then took a knife from the braai stand outside the bar and stabbed the now deceased once on the back and fled from the scene."
Following the assault, Nyevera reported the matter to ZRP Silobela on April 25 and was treated at Kwekwe District Hospital before being discharged.
However, his condition took a turn for the worse on May 4, 2026. After seeking further medical attention, he was referred to Gweru General Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission.
Inspector Mahoko confirmed that the suspect is in custody and will be brought before the courts as soon as the preliminary docket is complete.
"The suspect is expected to appear in court facing a very serious crime of murder, once investigations are complete," Mahoko said.
In the wake of the tragedy, the police spokesperson issued a strong plea for restraint and peaceful conflict resolution within the community.
"We urge members of the public to desist from resorting to violence in order to avoid unnecessary loss of lives," Inspector Mahoko said.
