Shurugwi South — Social and economic infrastructure projects in Ward 21 are set for increased attention following a monitoring and evaluation tour by Shurugwi South Member of Parliament, Honourable Wilson Mhuri.
The assessment covered key community projects and facilities, including Dorset Rural Hospital, the proposed Kashambe Clinic site, several schools, Khayelihle Rural Library, the Sister to Sister Dressmaking Project and Ashvodraai Farm Garden.
Ashvodraai Farm Garden recently secured a borehole drilling rig, a development expected to strengthen agricultural production and improve the community’s resilience to climate-related challenges.
Hon. Mhuri said the findings from the assessment would help guide the allocation of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) resources towards projects identified as priority needs in the ward.
Addressing residents and project stakeholders in Dorset, Hon. Mhuri called for unity and greater community participation in local development, saying political differences should not stand in the way of progress.
“It is time to come together and build our communities. It is not time to squabble and fight each other.
"Even our President has said, let us put our differences aside and build our nation. So everyone has a mandate to take part, brick by brick,” Hon. Mhuri said.
He said the attainment of Vision 2030 required development to reach rural communities and called for residents, government and other stakeholders to play their part in improving local infrastructure and livelihoods.
Mhuri also addressed concerns surrounding the involvement of youths in community development projects, dismissing claims that his office was preventing well-resourced young people from initiating projects.
He said his office remained open to working with individuals and organisations willing to invest in projects that address infrastructure and service-delivery needs in the constituency.
The legislator also said collaboration would be important in addressing gaps in areas such as healthcare, education and sustainable livelihoods, while encouraging communities to focus on projects that deliver tangible benefits to residents.
