Armed Robbers Pounce on Mukuru Branch in Byo, Get Away With US$78 000
Zimbabwe Republic Police are searching for suspects who robbed a Bulawayo financial services office of US$78,141 and ZAR 501,820 after forcing an employee to open a vault.
Bulawayo - Authorities in Zimbabwe have launched an investigation into an armed robbery at Mukuru Branch in central Bulawayo where suspects escaped with a substantial sum of foreign currency.
Police say the incident occurred at approximately 07:08 hours on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the facility located on Jason Moyo Street, between 8th and 9th Avenue.
A statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says the robbery was initiated as a female employee arrived for her shift.
Preliminary reports indicate the suspects intercepted the employee as she was parking her vehicle.
She was subsequently forced into the premises and coerced into opening the establishment's strong room and a Chubb safe.
Before fleeing through a rear exit, the assailants removed the onsite Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and a panic button in an apparent attempt to obstruct forensic identification and immediate response.
The ZRP has confirmed the total loss at US$78,141 and R501,820
"The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may assist in the on-going investigations," said ZRP National Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
