TelOne Donates Bins to Improve Gweru Waste Management
By Delicious Mathuthu — TelOne has donated 20 branded refuse bins to the City of Gweru as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, supporting efforts to improve waste management, curb illegal dumping and keep the city clean.
Gweru — TelOne Telecommunications has donated 20 branded refuse bins to the City of Gweru as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, in a move aimed at strengthening waste management and curbing illegal dumping in the city.
The donation, witnessed by TelOne Zimbabwe and City of Gweru officials, comes as council faces a shortage of refuse bins in some areas in the central business district as a result of vandalism or theft.
Officials said the additional bins are expected to provide residents with more designated disposal points and help the city maintain cleaner streets while reducing illegal dumping.

Gweru recently increased the fine for illegal waste dumping from US$30 to US$50 as council intensifies efforts to improve waste management and enforce compliance.
Speaking during the handover, City of Gweru Mayor Councillor Martin Chivhoko, thanked TelOne for the donation, saying it had come at an important time for the city.
“Thank you so much for the kind gesture. It came at an opportune time whereby as a city we want to be the cleanest city, not only in the province, but in the whole country,” Councillor Chivhoko said.
TelOne Midlands Regional Manager, Kisto Mutanga, said the donation was part of the telecommunications company's continuing partnership with the local authority.
“We are here to continue our partnership with the City of Gweru. And our aim today is to continue with that engagement,” Mutanga said.

Mutanga said TelOne was committed to supporting efforts to keep Gweru clean and would continue working with the council.
“We are here to donate about 20 bins to the City of Gweru. As we continue with our partnership, we want to promote the cleanliness of the city.
"And this is something that we will continue to do. It's not the first time so we will keep on doing the same as we proceed in our engagement and relationship with the city,” he said.
The donation comes amid broader efforts by the city to improve waste collection and discourage residents and businesses from disposing of refuse at undesignated sites.
