Bikita Bids Farewell to Chamisa's Sister as Family, Community Celebrate Her Life
President Nelson Chamisa and hundreds of mourners gathered in Bikita West to bury his sister, Memory Rumbidzai Chamisa.

Bikita West – A sombre yet dignified atmosphere engulfed Musukwa Village in Ward 11 on Sunday as hundreds of mourners gathered to lay to rest Memory Rumbidzai Chamisa, sister to President Nelson Chamisa.
Family members, residents from Bikita West, community leaders, friends and mourners from different parts of Zimbabwe and South Africa converged at the Chamisa family homestead for a farewell ceremony that blended sorrow with reflections on a life remembered for kindness and compassion.
Memory’s body was brought back from South Africa on Saturday ahead of the burial, following her death on 18 July 2026 after a prolonged illness.
She was born on 11 March 1980.
Speaking at the graveside, Nelson Chamisa described his sister as a loving, caring and empathetic individual whose character and generosity left a lasting impression on many people.
Other speakers who paid tribute to Memory highlighted her humility, warmth and commitment to helping others, saying her impact was felt both within her community and beyond.
The funeral service was conducted by former Norton Town Council Deputy Mayor, Emmanuel Chikaponya, who guided the proceedings with solemnity and respect.
Sabhuku Makomo, the Village Head under Chief Marozva, expressed gratitude to the hundreds of mourners who travelled to Musukwa Village to support the Chamisa family during their bereavement.
He said the overwhelming attendance demonstrated the deep bonds of solidarity and urged the community to continue embracing unity, compassion and care for one another.
Masvingo City Deputy Mayor, Daniel Mberikunashe, described Memory as a person who easily connected with people from all backgrounds, saying her friendliness and genuine affection for others made her widely loved and respected.
Those notably present included Honourable Martin Mureri (Masvingo Urban), Honourable Amos Chibaya (Gweru), Honourable John Kuka (Mkoba South), Coban Madzivanyika (Mbizo, Kwekwe), Honourable Bekezela Maplanka (Bulilima, Matabeleland South), Kudakwashe Bhadharai (Bikita West), Godfrey Madzikanda and Chaplain Sarah Mwatenga, alongside numerous other mourners who gathered to honour a woman remembered for her humility, kindness and grace.
