Ten Dead Following Bus, Truck Collision in Gokwe
A fatal road traffic accident on the Gokwe-Kwekwe Road in Zimbabwe involving a Trip-Trans passenger bus and a haulage truck has left 10 people dead after an overtaking attempt.
Gokwe - At least 10 people have died in Gokwe, Midlands Province, after a passenger bus collided with a haulage truck, police have confirmed.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at approximately 5 a.m. local time at the 110-kilometre peg along the Gokwe-Kwekwe Road, as the bus was travelling towards Kwekwe.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said a Trip-Trans bus carrying 36 passengers attempted an overtaking manoeuvre before crashing into an oncoming commercial truck.
Initial police assessments indicated that eight people died at the scene, however, national police updates later confirmed that the death toll subsequently rose to 10.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi stated that investigations into crash are ongoing, adding that "more details to be released in due course."
