Shurugwi – A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged fatal assault of his nephew following a dispute over missing food at a mining site.

The accused, Mike Washington (27) is alleged to have killed his nephew, Ephraim Mambowa, of the same age, both from Domboshava, at Hwehwe Mine Tribute under Zimasco in Shurugwi.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 1am on 29 June 2026.

According to sources, a misunderstanding arose after sadza and chunks went missing, leading to an argument that escalated into violence.

The accused is alleged to have struck the now-deceased with an iron bar several times, resulting in his instant death.

It is further reported that after the incident, the accused fled into the surrounding bushy mining area.
