Man Kills Wife Over Suspected Infidelity

Lower Gweru - A 26-year-old woman from Lower Gweru, Midlands province, has died after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband with a wooden log in a suspected case of domestic violence triggered by jealousy, Zimbabwe police have confirmed.

Paidaishe Moyo, of Chizhanga Village on Sandwich Farm in Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru, was killed on the evening of 26 May 2026.

Her 32-year-old husband, Khulekani Phiri, has been arrested.

Police say the incident followed an alleged confrontation the previous day.

"It is alleged that on 25 May 2026, around 3 a.m., the suspect came home from his workplace and saw Paidaishe accompanying a man only known as Mthandazo out of the yard," Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands acting spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Mollidias Zivuku said.

"Khulekani suspected that the two were in a love affair," she said.

The following evening, while the couple were in their bedroom, Phiri reportedly continued questioning his wife about the visitor.

"The now deceased's response did not satisfy the suspect who in turn took a wooden log and hit Paidaishe several times all over the body and she became unconscious," the police statement said

Phiri then went to his nephew claiming his wife was unwell.

When the nephew arrived, he discovered that Moyo was already dead.

A report was made to ZRP Maboleni police station.

Officers observed that the deceased was bleeding from a cut on the head and left ear, with additional cuts on both legs and several bruises across her body.

Investigations led to the arrest of Phiri and is expected to appear in court facing a murder charge once investigations are complete.

Asst. Inspector Zivuku urged the public to avoid violence.

"We urge members of the public to desist from resorting to violence in order to avoid unnecessary loss of lives," she said.
