Ambassador Matemadanda to be Buried at National Heroes Acre on Friday
Government has announced the burial of national hero, Ambassador Victor Matemadanda, at the National Heroes Acre on Friday, 26 June 2026.
Harare – The Government of Zimbabwe has announced that national hero, Ambassador Victor Matemadanda, will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre in Harare on Friday, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa expected to preside over the burial.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage outlined the programme for the movement of the late national hero's body and the ceremonies leading up to his burial.
According to the Ministry, Ambassador Matemadanda's body was airlifted from Harare to Gokwe Centre in the Midlands Province at 10am on Wednesday for a brief ceremony.
The remains were then flown at 2pm to Village 9C, Golden Resettlement, Sanyati, in Mashonaland West Province, where they will lie in state at the family residence.
A provincial send-off ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, in Mashonaland West Province.
Later the same day, at 2pm, the body will be flown back to Harare and will lie in state at his Mt Pleasant Heights residence ahead of burial.
The Ministry said proceedings at the National Heroes Acre will commence on Friday, with mourners expected to be seated by 7am.
Ambassador Matemadanda, a former liberation war fighter, senior ZANU PF official and diplomat, was recently declared a national hero following his death.
