Armed Robbery Gang Arrested Following Community Intervention
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested seven men linked to a series of armed robberies in Nyabira and Chitungwiza. The arrests followed a courageous intervention by local residents during a home invasion on May 5, 2026, leading to the recovery of multiple firearms and ammunition.
Harare -The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed the arrest of seven suspects in connection with a violent spree of armed robberies targeting residents in the Nyabira area.
The suspects have been identified as Malvin Mohammed Maisiri (32), Leonard Mahwindo (26), Tension Mahwindo (26), Heavens Chimupenga (17), Moffat Mango (50), Kudakwashe Munemo (29) and Goodwill Muchimba (39).
The breakthrough in the investigation occurred following an armed robbery on May 5, 2026.
At approximately 3 a.m. the gang allegedly attacked a residence in Nyabira, demanding cash and valuables while ransacking the property.
The complainant managed to alert neighbours, who mobilised rapidly and confronted the suspects while they were still inside the house.
As the suspects attempted to flee the scene, members of the public gave chase and successfully apprehended one individual, identified as Mohammed Hamandishe.
Information provided by the apprehended suspect led police to the subsequent arrest of his accomplices in Nyabira and Chitungwiza.
During the operations, law enforcement recovered a cache of weapons and tools used in the commission of crimes, including a Retay pistol with nine live rounds and four blank rounds; a Tokarev pistol with a magazine and live ammunition and a bolt cutter and a bicycle.
Investigations further linked the syndicate to three additional armed robbery cases reported on April 26, 2026, in the Nyabira district, where cash and household goods were stolen.
National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, commended the Nyabira community for their swift and courageous response, which was instrumental in the initial arrest.
The ZRP has issued an appeal for information regarding two outstanding suspects known only as “Good” and “Nyasha.”
