Gweru Gospel Musician Moscow Pembere Involved in Road Traffic Accident During School Run
GWERU – Renowned Gweru-based gospel musician Moscow Pembere was involved in a road traffic accident on Tuesday afternoon while reportedly on a school run, driving his children from school, Kwedu News has established.
The incident occurred at around 1700 hours at the busy Cathedral intersection along Seventh Street and Lobengula Street in Gweru.
By the time of publishing, Pembere’s condition could not be independently confirmed, as efforts to reach him for comment had not yet been successful. However, witnesses at the scene confirmed that his vehicle sustained visible damage, particularly to the rear bumper.
Kwedu News was unable to obtain an official comment from the Zimbabwe Republic Police traffic section regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash.
However, eye witnesses told Kwedu News that the accident occurred when an unidentified driver allegedly failed to stop at a give-way sign, ramming into the rear of Pembere’s vehicle. The impact reportedly caused congestion at the intersection as motorists and pedestrians gathered at the scene.
“There was a loud bang and we saw the vehicle had been hit from behind,” said one witness who declined to be named. “People later said it was Moscow Pembere inside.”
The incident has sparked widespread concern among fans, fellow musicians, and members of the Christian community, many of whom took to social media to express prayers and well wishes for the safety of the artist and his children.
Moscow Pembere, 38, is a highly respected gospel artist from Gweru, known for his spiritually rich music that blends worship, traditional gospel, and sungura-infused praise. A devout Christian, Pembere rose from humble beginnings in the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Church choir, where he received early mentorship and grounding in ministry through music.
His career has seen him collaborate with some of Zimbabwe’s celebrated gospel acts, including Mathias Mhere, Olinda Marowa, and Vadzidzi va Jesu. In 2018, Pembere’s artistry was recognised nationally when one of his songs was voted Best Song of the Year at the Midlands Arts Awards.
He has released three studio albums — Mweya Mutsvene (2018), Jesus Christ (2020), and his latest offering Nyaya Yangu (2025) — alongside four singles, including the spiritually reflective track “Mweya Wangu”, featuring Mai Patai.
Pembere has often said his mission is to preach the Word of God through music, with aspirations to take his ministry beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
As investigations continue, Kwedu News will provide updates as soon as official information on the accident and Pembere’s condition becomes available
