Gokwe - A political trip nearly ended in tragedy after Amos Chibaya, a senior associate of Nelson Chamisa, was involved in a road accident in Gokwe yesterday, Saturday March 11, 2026.

The crash occurred when the vehicle carrying Chibaya and his colleagues struck a cow that reportedly darted onto the road from a blind spot, leaving the vehicle significantly damaged and its occupants shaken.

Chibaya was travelling with Angeline Kasipo, Siboneni Mpofu, Mavis Mashumba and Trevor Phiri at the time of the incident.

Early accounts suggested that some passengers had sustained injuries, raising alarm among supporters and party members.

Subsequent updates however confirmed that those involved escaped with only minor bruises. One of the occupants, identified as Chitsapi, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

In remarks following the incident, Citizen Radio reported  Chibaya as  saying  the situation unfolded rapidly, with the animal appearing without warning and giving the driver little chance to avoid impact.

Efforts to get a comment from Chibaya were unsuccessful at the time of publication, but a source said the crash was sudden and chaotic.
