Harare - The African Federation announced on Wednesday the holding of its inaugural TAF Global Conference, bringing together leaders, professionals and members of the global African diaspora to advance coordinated efforts toward institutional reclamation and greater sovereignty on the continent.

Led by Chief Executive Officer, Elisabeth Valerio, and the organisation’s executive leadership, the virtual gathering was a formal transition from research and advocacy to ground-level execution of development initiatives.

At a time when Africa continues to face significant external influences, the federation says it aims to establish itself as the primary architect of African-led solutions.

The organisation says it is mobilising six core focus units covering economy, environment, governance, future-tech, narrative and wellness to address what it describes as a leadership vacuum in the post-colonial era.

"We are not gathering to debate or agonise about what Africa needs. We are gathering to organise and implement what Africa must build," Valerio said in a statement.

"The era of the spectator is over. Africa’s progress will be determined by those prepared to move beyond rhetoric and commit to the disciplined work of building institutions, strengthening partnerships, and coordinating action across the continent," she said.

The conference also served as a call to Africans both on the continent and in the diaspora to align around a unified vision.

Valerio said there is need for coordination over fragmentation and substance over symbolism.

"The African Federation is positioning itself as the primary architect of African sovereignty," the organisation said, "we are choosing coordination over fragmentation, substance over symbolism, and authentic leadership over empty promises."

The event was hosted on Zoom on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at 6pm GMT (7pm WAT, 8pm CAT, 9pm EAT).

TAF is a Pan-African organisation formed through a collaboration of Africa's people and founded for the youth of future

The organisation says it is inspired by common values, principles and an ideology that promotes inter-African African cooperation and Pan- Africanism; determined to restore the unity, prosperity and sovereignty of Africa so that by 2050, Africa will be a superpower for the many rather than the few.
