Gweru - Police in Gweru have launched a manhunt for a school-run commuter omnibus driver following allegations of repeated aggravated indecent assault against a seven-year-old boy from Mkoba.

The suspect, identified only as "Jonso," is alleged to have abused the juvenile on several occasions inside his vehicle while in transit between the victim’s school and Mkoba since March 12, 2026.

The harrowing ordeal came to light on March 19, 2026, after the victim's mother discovered physical evidence of the abuse while undressing the child.

Upon being questioned, the boy revealed a pattern of serial abuse.

"She interviewed the victim and he narrated that the commuter omnibus driver who ferries him to and from school was sodomising him in the commuter omnibus whenever he takes him since 12 March 2026," Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko revealed.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police expressed grave concern over the incident, noting that the suspect’s full particulars remain unknown.

Authorities have used the case to issue a warning to parents regarding the vetting of private transport providers for learners.

"We are urging the general public to desist from entrusting strangers with their children as it endangers their lives," Inspector Mahoko said, adding that "due diligence need to be taken in the planning of movements of children to and from school."

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.

He said members of the public can report to any police station or contact the Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Office directly.
