Mnangagwa commissions new generation of military leaders

GWERU-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commissioned a new crop of regular officer cadets, declaring them ready to defend Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and territorial integrity after completing an extensive 21-month training programme at the Zimbabwe Military Academy.

Presiding over the Pass Out Parade of Regular Officer Cadet Course 3/41/24 in Gweru, the President — who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces — described the graduation as “another injection of future military leaders” into the country’s defence establishment.

The course, which began in May 2024, rigorously prepared the young men and women in command and leadership, conventional warfare, low intensity operations, administration and military law — key pillars in shaping competent and professional officers.

“You are no longer civilians,” President Mnangagwa said. “Welcome to a life of sacrifice and service.”

He applauded the cadets for their boldness, resilience and endurance throughout the demanding training period, urging them to uphold the highest standards of patriotism, loyalty, discipline and integrity as they assume duties across formations, bases and units.

The President emphasised that the graduation reflects the Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ continued prioritisation of strengthening leadership and operational competencies among junior officers to sustain a strong and capable defence force.

“These new officers have been sufficiently prepared to contribute to the preservation of our territorial integrity, national security and interests, as well as our core values and heritage,” he said.

On a sombre note, the Commander-in-Chief extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Officer Cadet Blessed Mushana, who passed away during the course of training.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said, as the parade observed the solemn loss of one of their own.

President Mnangagwa also paid tribute to the Commandant and staff of the Zimbabwe Military Academy for producing high-grade officers, while thanking the Gweru community, traditional leaders and stakeholders for their unwavering support to the institution.

He reserved special appreciation for parents, families and guardians for nurturing “exemplary young boys and girls” who have now met the high standards required to serve the motherland.

As the parade culminated in cheers and salutes, the President reminded the officers of the weighty expectations resting upon their shoulders and urged them to live up to the Oath of Allegiance pledged before the nation.

“Go forth, thrive and be counted among those who wholeheartedly serve our country in your generation,” he said.

With that charge — “Makorokoto, Amhlophe” — Zimbabwe welcomed a new generation of commissioned officers into its defence forces, entrusted with safeguarding the nation’s peace, sovereignty and future.
