GOKWE – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to a five-member gang responsible for a series of robberies and unlawful entries in Gokwe and Shurugwi.

The arrested suspects, Andrew Aunde (20) of Village Masuka, Chief Masuka, and Tinashe Muzenda of Village Mashove under Chief Njelele, were apprehended on 2 March 2026 for offences dating back to 23 February. The gang is alleged to have carried out at least 21 cases of unlawful entry and robbery, with one case reported at Musasa Business Centre in Shurugwi.

According to ZRP Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Mahoko E, the gang targeted residential premises at night, using weapons including axes, iron bars, and knives to threaten occupants. They reportedly demanded cash, cellphones, and groceries, and violently assaulted those who resisted.

The most affected areas in Gokwe included Sasame, Mapfungautsi high-density suburbs, and surrounding communal areas under Chief Njelele. Victims linked to the gang’s activities include Alleta Maphosa (43), Clarity Marodza (45), Lorencia Mandizvidza (22), Fungai Dzingira (40), Sylvia Ndebele (51), among others, including three minors.

The arrests followed a citizen-led intervention after a robbery victim identified Andrew Aunde. Public assistance enabled his apprehension and subsequent handover to ZRP Gokwe, leading investigators to also arrest Tinashe Muzenda in Gokwe Central Business District. Several stolen cellphones were recovered, with the total value of recovered items still being assessed.

Inspector Mahoko appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining three suspects, identified only as Tanaka, Sydney Ngulube, and Magaisa. He thanked community members for their continued cooperation, noting that it reinforces the principle that “the fight against crime is everyone’s responsibility.”
