South African Former Minister Robbed at Gunpoint in Pretoria Home
Dr Naledi Pandor, former South African Minister of International Relations and current Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University, was confronted at gunpoint during a house robbery at her Villieria home in Pretoria. Three armed suspects ransacked the property, stealing televisions, a laptop, phones and the family’s Toyota Cross vehicle, which was later recovered in Mamelodi East.
Pretoria - Former International Relations and Cooperation Minister Dr. Naledi Pandor was confronted at gunpoint during a brazen house robbery at her home in Villieria, Pretoria, on Friday night, May 22.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. when three armed suspects forced entry into the property.
The intruders made their way to the bedroom where Dr. Pandor was confronted, while a second suspect held her husband in the bathroom.
The suspects then systematically searched and ransacked the house.
No injuries were reported during the ordeal.
Items stolen include several televisions, a laptop, mobile phones and the family’s Toyota Cross vehicle.
The suspects fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, which was later recovered by police in Mamelodi East.
It is not yet clear whether any arrests have been made.
South African police have confirmed they are actively investigating the case and have appealed to members of the public with any information to come forward.
Authorities have also urged residents in the Villieria area to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
Dr. Naledi Pandor served as South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation from 2019 to 2024.
She previously held several other senior cabinet positions, including Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Science and Technology, and Minister of Education.
Since 2018, she has served as Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University.
South African police have asked for public assistance with information on the robbery, saying anyone with such information may contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop anonymously.
