Police Hunt Accomplices After Murewa Robber Sentenced to 25 Years
Murewa man Trust Vengai Tito sentenced to 25 years for nine robberies targeting homes, schools, and businesses. Police are hunting accomplices Bethel Matema and Baba Bhibhi, who remain at large.
Police have intensified efforts to track down two suspected robbers who remain on the run following the conviction and sentencing of their alleged accomplice, Trust Vengai Tito, to 25 years in prison.
Tito (35), of Mapako Location in Murewa, was convicted on nine counts of unlawful entry and robbery by Regional Magistrate Mrs Loyce Mkunyadzi on 29 May 2026.
According to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Tito carried out a series of robberies between November 2025 and February 2026 together with Bethel Matema and another suspect known only as Baba Bhibhi, who are still at large.
The trio allegedly targeted homes, schools, grocery shops and hardware stores across Murewa, stealing cash and property worth thousands of dollars. In some incidents, security guards were assaulted while the suspects gained entry into premises and looted valuables.
Police investigations culminated in Tito's arrest on 6 February 2026 after detectives received information linking the gang to stolen property. Several items believed to have been stolen during the robberies were recovered.
With Tito now behind bars, police have turned their attention to apprehending the remaining suspects.
CID spokesperson, Detective Inspector Rachael Muteweri said investigations are continuing and appealed to members of the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of Bethel Matema and Baba Bhibhi.
