Chivayo Pledges US$250 000, Vehicles Honouring John Landa Nkomo
Wicknell Chivayo has pledged US$250 000, vehicles and computers to the John Landa Nkomo Trust in honour of the late Vice-President.

Harare — Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has pledged US$250 000 to the John Landa Nkomo Trust, alongside vehicles and computer equipment in contribution towards the development of the school associated with the late former Vice-President, Dr. John Landa Nkomo.
Chivayo made the pledge while commemorating what would have been Nkomo’s birthday, describing the late nationalist and statesman as a giant of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and a champion of national unity, peace and reconciliation.
Under the pledge, the John Landa Nkomo Trust will receive US$250 000 towards further development of the school.
Chivayo also pledged a new single-cab pickup for the headmaster and a Toyota Coaster bus, which he said would complement a 76-seater bus he donated to the school last year.
The businessman further committed 100 desktop computers, 50 laptops and 50 printers towards the establishment and development of what he described as a state-of-the-art computer laboratory.
Chivayo said the investment is expected to strengthen the school's access to digital learning infrastructure at a time when technology and computer literacy are increasingly central to education and employment.
“Our children must be equipped with modern technology and given every opportunity to compete in an increasingly digital world,” he said in his announcement.
Chivayo also said the donations were part of his efforts to preserve Nkomo's legacy through practical investments in education.
Nkomo, who served as Zimbabwe's Vice-President from 2009 until his death in 2013, was also a prominent liberation struggle figure and advocate of peace and national unity.
Chivayo invoked Nkomo's message that peace begins with individuals and extends to the wider society.
The latest pledge adds to Chivayo's previous contributions to the school. In 2025, he announced another 75-seater bus for John Landa Nkomo School, according to his social media posts.
Chivayo also singled out Jabulani Nkomo, Chairman of the John Landa Nkomo Trust, for praise over his role in preserving the late Vice-President's legacy.
He announced a further US$50 000 personal gift to Jabulani Nkomo and US$20 000 for his wife, Busi, as what he described as a token of appreciation for their leadership and dedication.
