27 Die In Chivhu Kombi, Haulage Truck Crash
Twenty-seven people have died and seven others injured after a Nissan Caravan kombi collided head-on with a Volvo haulage truck near Makumimavi Primary School along the Harare-Masvingo Road in Chivhu.

Chivhu — Twenty-seven people have died and seven others injured after a Nissan Caravan NV350 kombi collided head-on with a foreign registered plate Volvo haulage truck along the Harare-Masvingo Road in Chivhu on Friday night, 28 August 2026.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the accident occurred at around 8.30pm at the 132-kilometre peg near Makumimavi Primary School.
In a statement issued earlier today, August 29, national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi made the confirmation.
The victims were travelling in the Nissan Caravan, which police said was carrying African Apostolic Church (Mwazha) congregants travelling from Dema to Mvuma for a church conference.

Commissioner Nyathi confirmed the kombi was involved in a head-on collision with a Volvo haulage truck with preliminary investigations indicating that the foreign-registered truck was allegedly trying to overtake another vehicle when the fatal collision occurred.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
“The names of the victims will be released as soon as the bodies are identified by their next of kin,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
The tragedy has left families and the Apostolic Church community mourning as authorities continue with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The ZRP expressed its condolences to the bereaved families.
