Kwekwe - A violent midnight raid on a tuckshop at Moss Mine Charter has left a local couple traumatized and robbed of assets valued at more than US$10,500.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, saying a four-man gang used bolt cutters to breach the premises in the early hours of Thursday, March 19, 2026.

The victims, identified as 45-year-old Charles Mirimi and his wife Sharai Nkambeni, were asleep inside their business when the intruders forced their way in.

After gaining entry, the suspects reportedly used physical restraint to incapacitate the couple, tying their hands and legs with cloths before demanding cash.

"The suspects demanded cash and valuables and Nkambeni handed over US$350, one Kuva cellphone, a Techno cellphone... and a pack of gas lighters," Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.

The gang further coerced the victims into surrendering their EcoCash PIN, gaining access to an additional US$5,525 held in a digital wallet.

Before fleeing the scene, the syndicate ransacked the tuckshop and seized the keys to the couple’s vehicle, a Honda Fit with registration number AFI 1925, which was used as a getaway car.

The total value of the stolen property and cash has been officially pegged by police at US$10,525.

The incident comes amid a broader surge in violent crime that has seen ZRP Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide units engaging in fatal shootouts with similar syndicates across the region.

Just hours after this robbery, police in Gweru were involved in a gunfight with a separate gang linked to the 2025 Mutangadura murder, resulting in one fatality.

While that operation successfully accounted for several high-profile suspects, the Kwekwe gang remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

"May the general public be on the lookout for the stolen motor vehicle," urged Inspector Mahoko.

Police have appealed for public assistance , saying those who may have any information regarding the whereabouts of the blue Honda Fit or the identity of the four suspects be passed to the nearest police station.
