UFIC State-of the-Art Structure Praised as Catalyst for Growth by Veteran Land Developer Smelly Dube
Professor Smelly Dube hails the United Family International Church (UFIC) Woodlands project in Gweru as a transformative landmark set to boost investment, drive economic growth, and reshape the city’s skyline into a major hub for worship, events, and community development.
GWERU – Prominent Zimbabwean businesswoman and philanthropist, Professor Smelly Dube has described the United Family International Church (UFIC)’s sprawling infrastructure project in Woodlands as a transformative development with far-reaching economic and social impact.
Prof. Dube, who is the Chief Executive of River Valley Group of Companies and co-director of Tebekwe Mine in Shurugwi, said the structure officially opened yesterday represents “a giant step in the right direction” for both the city of Gweru and the broader Midlands province.
The development, led by Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa under the United Family International Church, has been underway since 2024 and is now emerging as one of the most prominent architectural landmarks in the region.
Widely respected for her leadership across business and community development, Prof. Dube oversees diverse ventures that employ hundreds of people while supporting livelihoods for over a thousand dependents. Her work in mining and enterprise development has positioned her as an influential voice on economic growth and sustainable investment
It is from this perspective that the land developer, Prof. Dube view the UFIC project as more than a place of worship.
“This development speaks to vision, consistency and faith in the future. It is not only a spiritual centre, but an economic and social asset for the entire community,” she said.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to accommodate nearly a thousand of congregants and host major gatherings, including conferences, weddings and community events. Its scale and modern design are already reshaping the Woodlands skyline, signalling a shift in Gweru’s urban outlook.
Prof. Dube noted that such large-scale investments often trigger wider development.
“Infrastructure of this magnitude naturally attracts business activity. As a land developer this add value to our business. We are likely to see growth in transport, retail and property development around this area,” she said.
Residents and local businesses are set to benefit from increased foot traffic and economic activity as the facility becomes fully operational. The project is expected to draw visitors from across Zimbabwe and beyond, boosting Gweru’s profile as a destination for both religious tourism and corporate events.
For UFIC, the structure stands as a testament to years of perseverance and expansion. Since its inception, the church has grown into a global ministry, and the Gweru church now reflects that journey in physical form.
As the church got officially opened on Saturday the 21st of March 2026, by Ruth Makandiwa, a Zimbabwean businesswoman, author, and wife of Emmanuel Makandiwa, the founder of the United Family International Church, anticipation continues to build among congregants and residents. For leaders like Prof. Dube, the significance of the project lies not only in its scale, but in what it represents.
"This development stands as a powerful symbol of what can be achieved through commitment and long-term vision. It inspires confidence among investors while bringing hope to communities. Many people who pass through the area are left in awe, often mistaking the structure for a tourist attraction,” said Prof. Smelly Dube
Local ward 5 Councillor for Vungu Rural District Council, Parirenyatwa Nyika, expressed satisfaction with the quality of the development, describing it as a welcome addition to the area. He highlighted that such infrastructure not only modernises the community but also brings social and economic benefits, including increased business activity and improved local visibility. Cllr Nyika further noted that the presence of a strong Christian institution contributes to moral guidance, community cohesion and spiritual growth among residents.
