GWERU – In a thunderous courtroom climax, former ZANU PF Ward 12 councillor Charles Simbi and his wife, Zodwa Thembinkosi Simbi, were found guilty of forgery and fraud in a sensational land dispute case that has rocked the Midlands province.
The Gweru Magistrate Court ruled that the couple conspired to produce and use a fake offer letter in a bid to seize control of a lucrative 10-hectare gold-rich plot at Kanuck Farm.
Magistrate Beaulity Dube declared that although the forged document bore Zodwa’s name, both acted in common purpose—with Charles Simbi brazenly presenting the letter in court to mislead the judiciary. The conviction follows weeks of explosive testimony, conflicting statements, and glaring inconsistencies, including Zodwa’s mistaken claim that a photocopy was the original and her admission of using blue ink—raising serious questions about the document’s authenticity.
The forged letter was allegedly used to disrupt operations of the New Generation Mining Syndicate, which had discovered rich gold deposits on the land. Prosecutor Fredrick Macheza led a relentless case, backed by damning evidence from lands officials and council executives who disowned the document outright.
The Simbis, arrested in May 2024, now await sentencing on Monday, November 10, 2025. One local veteran legal practitioner say the verdict sends a strong message against land fraud and abuse of public trust.
