GWERU – In a impressive display of beauty, intellect, and sheer elegance, Tinotenda Natasha Munema (22) was crowned Miss Gweru 2025 at a glittering ceremony held at the Village Lodge. The highly anticipated event, a testament to the enduring spirit of local pageantry, saw Munema emerge victorious from a competitive field of ten contestants, etching her name into the annals of Gweru's cultural landscape.

The radiant queen, hailing from Mkoba 14, not only claimed the coveted crown but also swept the 'Miss Personality' and 'Miss Talent' categories, showcasing a rare blend of confidence and charisma that captivated both judges and audience alike. For her outstanding performance, Munema walked away with a US$500 cash prize, courtesy of Masbeth Investment CM Mahara Logistics, a 43-inch television from Afro Distributors, and an additional US$50 for each of her special titles, sponsored by Mr. Coussie M. Anashe. Her evening ball gowns were courtesy of Mahein Glam, Phrasai 947 Boutique, and Urban Vogue Boutique.

Speaking to The Times shortly after her crowning, a beaming Munema expressed her ambitious vision: "I am happy to be the crowned queen, Miss Gweru 2025, and this is my opportunity to go to international levels. I don’t want to end here, and I am grateful that I was crowned today, for the journey was challenging, but at the same time exciting, and a platform to learn.” Munema, who holds a background in Tourism & Hospitality Management and works as a Beverage and Stores Supervisor, is also a talented artist, actress, and songwriter, truly embodying a multifaceted modern queen.

The glamorous evening, presented by Mahogany TV, The Village Lodge, and Image Modelling Agency, also celebrated other outstanding young women who distinguished themselves in the competitive pageant. Mileter Moyo (20), a first-year Accounting student at NUST from Ridgemont Heights, was named First Princess, receiving US$300 from Masbeth Investment CM Mahara Logistics. Abundance Mudzidzi (20), a self-employed creative hand crafter from Adelaide Park, secured the Second Princess title and a US$200 prize, courtesy of Mr. Coussie M. Anashe.

Further accolades went to Petronella Phiri (26), an MSU Clinical Psychology student from Z.N.M.A, who won the 'Miss People’s Choice' award, and Natasha Mabwe (19), a scholar supplementing her 'A' Levels from Lundi Park, who was crowned 'Super Model'. Each received a US$50 cash prize from anonymous donors, highlighting the diverse talents recognized throughout the evening. Ropafadzo Manyanga (23), a Social Work student with Reformed Church University from Kopje, also made it to the top five, demonstrating the depth of talent on display.

The competitive pageant, themed "Celebrating African Beauty & Cultural Diversity," was a vibrant showcase of grace and style. It featured a stunning grand opening in dazzling cocktail wear, followed by segments celebrating cultural heritage, avant-garde designs, talent, swimwear, and exquisite evening ball gowns. Notably, FK Fashions, one of the event's proud sponsors, skillfully designed all the bespoke swimwear and cocktail dresses, adding a touch of contemporary elegance to the contestants' presentations.

Mavis Koslek, Director of Image Modelling Agency and the driving force behind the Miss Gweru pageant since its inception, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success despite acknowledging that sponsorship was "a bit low" compared to previous years. She emphasized the pageant's crucial role as a stepping stone, confirming that the winners would now proceed to represent Gweru in the national finals, scheduled for Harare on a date yet to be announced. Koslek extended her heartfelt gratitude to The Village Lodge and Mahogany TV for their exemplary hosting, and to all sponsors for their invaluable support.

The glamorous occasion was graced by guest of honour Tanyaradzwa Chimanyiwa, the Assistant District Development Officer, who lauded the pageant for its profound community impact. "This pageant is more than just about beauty but also about grooming role models who can inspire other young people and contribute positively to society," Chimanyiwa remarked during the ceremony, underscoring the event's broader developmental purpose. Dignitaries present included the Deputy Mayoress, Miss World Zimbabwe 2024 Courtney Tadiwanashe Jongwe, and Miss Teen of the Universe Zimbabwe Ashantelle Chapenga, adding significant prestige to the event. The crowning team comprised outgoing Miss Gweru 2024 Tadiwanashe Muneme, Nothabo Ncube (Miss Gweru 2023 2nd Princess), and Courtney Mpofu (Miss Gweru 2024 Talent).

Adding a vibrant spark to the evening, Afro-soul sensation Nyasha David mesmerized the audience with his signature vocals. Earlier, Dollar and the Beat Band, Mr. Sean, and the Royal King's Dance Trouper kept the energy high with electrifying live music and captivating dance performances, ensuring a celebratory atmosphere throughout the night.

Established in 2019, the Miss Gweru pageant, organized by Image Modelling Agency, has consistently championed young women in the city. Despite facing financial constraints, as acknowledged by Koslek, the event continues to flourish, a testament to its dedicated organizers and the unwavering belief in its mission to empower and uplift. This consistent effort has solidified its place as a cornerstone of Gweru's youth development initiatives, creating platforms for aspiring models and community leaders to shine.
