Aa parliament passes brutal law.
By Harry Taruva
Indonesia's parliament has passed a controversial law that bans sex outside marriage and criminalising extra marital sex, in a move that could see Indonesians and foreign tourists breaking this law going to jail.
The Associated Press reports that a parliamentary committee finalised the bill in November with law makers passing it into law on Tuesday. Details of the law indicate that sex outside marriage carries a one year jail term while one could spend six months in jail for cohabitation. The same law also criminalises abortion and insulting a sitting president and vice president.
Meanwhile, human rights groups have condemned the new law as vague and ambiguous while also curtaling the people's freedom of expression.
