Perth, Australia - In a diplomatic and economic outreach effort, a high-level Zimbabwean delegation, led by Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Winston Chitando, is set to attend the prestigious Africa Down Under (ADU) Mining and Energy conference in Perth from September 3-5, 2025.. The Zimbabwe Miners Federation is set to be represented by its President Henrietta Rushwaya.
The visit is part of Zimbabwe's ambition to attract foreign investment and engage its skilled diaspora, particularly within Australia's influential mining and energy sectors.
The delegation's presence at the ADU conference, a key forum for Australian-African business relations, is one of Zimbabwe's renewed focus on its vast mineral resources.
Zimbabwe's mining sector is a cornerstone of its economy, boasting an impressive array of minerals including platinum group metals, gold, diamonds and one of Africa's largest lithium deposits.
"The mining industry is a critical pillar of our economic recovery and growth strategy," Minister Chitando is on record saying.
The mission, however, extends beyond traditional investor meetings; a letter from Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Australia, Joe Tapera Mhishi, to the Zimbabwe Communities in Australia leaders outlines three key events at the Novotel Perth Langley.
These include two investors' breakfast meetings and a special Zimbabwe Diaspora Engagement Cocktail Reception.
With a large number of highly educated and skilled professionals, the Zimbabwean community in Australia is one of the country's most successful migrant groups.
Their expertise in fields like engineering and business is seen as a valuable asset for Zimbabwe's development.
The inclusion of key officials like Engineer Gloria Magombo, Secretary for the Ministry of Energy and Power Development, and representatives from the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) and the Mutapa Wealth Fund, signals a holistic approach looking to streamline investment processes and build long-term, strategic partnerships.
