Gweru, Zimbabwe - Police are investigating the murder of a man who was found stabbed and unconscious at a bus stop in Lower Gweru, near Makepesi business centre on Monday morning, November 15.
John Madziyo, a resident of Lower Gweru, was discovered lying in a pool of blood around midnight at Buffalo Bus Stop along the Gweru-Maboleni Road by two women returning home from Makepesi business centre.
Officers from Maboleni police station who attended the scene noted multiple stab wounds to the head.
Madziyo was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
"Anyone with information that may assist the investigations is urged to report to the nearest police station.
"We are still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident," Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said in a statement
No arrests have been made and the motive for the killing remains unclear.
In a separate incident, police have warned motorists against giving lifts to strangers after a 55-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint on the Shurugwi-Unki Mine road on the evening of November 15.
Herbert Mbayimbayi, an employee at Unki Mine, had offered a ride to three men who claimed they were heading to Chironde.
A few kilometres after picking them up in his Toyota Runx, one of the passengers allegedly held a knife to his neck and forced him to turn onto a nearby road, Lucilia Dam Road.
The trio ordered him to stop after about eight kilometres, robbed him of US$35 in cash, and drove off in his vehicle.
The car was later found abandoned roughly one kilometre away.
Mbayimbayi was left unharmed but shaken.
"We urge motorists to avoid offering lifts to strangers, whether for free or for a fee, as some may have criminal intentions," Inspector Mahoko said.
Police said investigations into both cases are ongoing.
