Kwekwe —In a bid to elevate community policing, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mbizo Station received a significant infrastructure on Friday with the official handover of a newly constructed ablution facility, generously donated by mining giant ZIMASCO at a cost of USD $22,000.
The improvement is set to drastically enhance the station's operational environment and boost community policing initiatives.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Commissioner Patson Nyabadza, Officer Commanding Police Midlands Province, lauded the donation as a "milestone in community policing" and a "critical improvement to the station’s operational environment."

“This is more than just a building—it’s a symbol of partnership and shared responsibility,” Commissioner Nyabadza stated. “When corporates like ZIMASCO support the Police, the entire community benefits.”

The much-needed facility addresses years of deteriorating sanitation conditions at ZRP Mbizo. Originally established in 1978 as a base under ZRP Kwekwe Central, the station served a population of 20,000 with only three toilets. Today, its jurisdiction spans 23 suburbs and caters to over 70,000 residents. The original ablution facilities were declared irreparable and condemned in 2020, leaving the station without proper sanitation for five years.

“This facility restores dignity to our officers and comfort to the public who visit us for services,” Nyabadza emphasized, highlighting that the upgrade directly benefits all 70,000 people within the policing area.

The Commissioner also took the opportunity to reaffirm ZRP’s dedication to service excellence, referencing the ZRP Client Service Charter first launched in 1995. He encouraged members of the public to utilize proper channels for complaints if dissatisfied with police service.

Commissioner Nyabadza asserted that the donation had “revived the spirits” of Mbizo’s officers, promising intensified efforts to combat serious crimes such as murder, robbery, assault, and theft, which are statistically prevalent in the area. “Criminals in this area are warned: we are coming for you,” he declared.
The ceremony concluded with a powerful call for residents to actively participate in crime prevention, echoing the community policing philosophy central to the donation. “The fight against crime is everyone’s responsibility,” Nyabadza urged. “Let’s all work hand in glove with our local Police, just as ZIMASCO has done.”
