Gweru - Midlands Police are investigating a suspected suicide case in Gweru's Woodlands Park suburb where a 59-year-old man was found shot dead on December 29 following a family dispute.
The 56-year-old man, identified as Farai Zindonda, was found dead at his home in Woodlands suburb, Midlands Province, on Saturday, December 29.
Police say he was discovered lying in a pool of blood with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Preliminary findings say a 303 rifle loaded with nine rounds was found in Zindonda’s hands, with the barrel positioned close to the wound.
There were no signs of forced entry or a physical struggle at the scene, although investigations to establish the exact circumstances are still ongoing.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko (pictured), confirmed the incident and used the occasion to urge the public to seek help during times of distress.
“Once again, we appeal to members of the public not to take their lives as a solution to personal challenges.
“Those experiencing emotional or mental health challenges should reach out to family members, friends, or professional counsellors for assistance," he said.
Police said family members are being interviewed and the deceased’s recent movements are being reviewed.
The firearm and other exhibits recovered at the scene will undergo forensic analysis to determine the official cause of death.
