GWERU – Renowned gospel musician Mathias Mhere once again raised the bar with a five-star crossover performance at the Miracle Church of All Nations (MMCN) on December 31, turning the New Year’s Eve service into a spiritually charged celebration of worship, song and prophetic declaration as congregants ushered in the new year on a high note of faith and expectation.
Although Mhere’s five-man band has become a familiar and much-anticipated feature of New Year’s Eve services, each appearance has marked a noticeable elevation in musical excellence, stagecraft and spiritual depth, cementing his performances as a signature highlight of the church’s crossover tradition.
As the countdown to midnight drew closer, the church sanctuary pulsed with anticipation as Mhere took to the stage accompanied by a well-rehearsed live band. Dressed in a black, glittering suit, the gospel veteran opened his set with Favour, a song that immediately drew congregants to their feet and set the tone for the night.
“This song is not just music,” Mhere told the congregation mid-performance. “When we sing Favour, we are declaring that we are stepping into the new year under God’s grace and direction.”
Supported by layered harmonies and driving instrumentation, the performance saw worshippers singing along, clapping in rhythm and lifting their hands in prayer as the music filled the sanctuary. The band’s tight arrangements and synchronized movements heightened the atmosphere, turning the service into a collective expression of faith.
Mhere went on to belt out a string of crowd favourites, including Dai Mai Varipano, Mwari Ngavandiperekedze and Ndiye Wazondiramba, each song drawing louder responses from the congregation.
At the height of the performance, Mhere raised his voice over a swelling chorus and proclaimed: “We are crossing over not in fear, but in faith. The year ahead is already covered by God’s favour.” The declaration was met with thunderous applause and chants from the congregation.
The approximately 30-minute set culminated in a final rendition of Favour as the clock edged toward midnight, sealing the crossover moment with song and prayer. The anointed worship by Mhere and his band paved the way for the charismatic preacher, Prophet Luke Chivasa, who took to the pulpit thereafter and strengthened the congregation’s spiritual resolve through the uncompromising preaching of the Word of God, urging believers to enter the new year anchored in faith, obedience and purpose.
As the last notes faded and the sermon concluded, congregants continued celebrating in the church halls, exchanging embraces and testimonies.
One congregant who attended the service with her family described the moment as deeply moving. “It felt like a spiritual reset. You could feel the hope in the room when he sang,” she said.
The New Year’s Eve service further cemented MMCN’s reputation for hosting vibrant worship gatherings that blend contemporary gospel music with prophetic declarations. For many in attendance, the night was more than a celebration — it was a spiritual commissioning for the year ahead.
As worshippers departed into the early hours of the new year, one message echoed through conversations and prayers: a shared belief that the year had begun not with uncertainty, but with a declaration of faith, unity and divine favour.
