Australian-listed Invictus Energy has officially relocated its corporate headquarters to Harare, effectively shifting its primary operational focus onto the country, while its legal domicile remains in Australia.
This strategic move follows a massive injection of confidence and capital into the firm's flagship endeavor.
In August, a landmark US$500 million funding commitment was announced from the Qatari investment powerhouse, Al Mansour Holdings (AMH).
The substantial backing propels Invictus's development plans for the massive Cabora Bassa Project in the Muzarabani District of Mashonaland Central province.
The financial markets have reacted positively to the news. Since the announcement of the AMH deal, Invictus’s market capitalisation on the Australia Stock Exchange has more than trebled, soaring from US55.2 million to US168.9 million, a growth in investor interest and belief in the project’s future.
The decision to base operations in Harare is not only administrative but a tactical step to support the anticipated surge in activity.
Invictus Managing Director, Scott Macmillan, confirmed the strategic intent in a letter attached to the firm’s annual report for the period ended June 30, 2025.
“Activity will be supported from our new corporate headquarters in Harare to facilitate ongoing growth, as well as accommodate senior expatriate staff while in the country during field activities," he said.
He said the next 24 months are critical, outlining a schedule that encompasses well testing, appraisal drilling at the Mukuyu site and laying the groundwork for a crucial gas-to-power pilot initiative.
The pilot project, stemming from a deal with Dallaglio Investments and Himoinsa Southern Africa, is designed to supply gas directly to power Dallaglio’s Eureka Gold Mine, marking an early phase of commercial utilization.
The Cabora Bassa Basin's potential is estimated to hold approximately 1.38 billion barrels of oil and condensate.
According to a Business Digest publication, at the current market rates, the reserve is valued at about US$90 billion, representing a transformative resource for the Zimbabwean economy.
Exploration efforts are already advanced, targeting high-impact areas to refine the project’s development pathway.
Planning for high impact exploration drilling at the Musuma-1 well is advanced and will provide valuable insights into the Eastern Margin plays, refining our focus for the project’s initial development phase," Macmillan said.
Prior to the AMH commitment, Invictus strengthened its balance sheet through a US$12 million placement with Mangwana Capital.
The subsequent AMH deal immediately injected US$24.5 million, with the mammoth US$500 million secured as conditional future financing specifically earmarked to propel the project to its stage of commercial production.
