Gweru, Zimbabwe - A homeless man was killed in Gweru Central Business District (CBD) after being smashed with a 5kg stone as he slept on a shop veranda on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The victim, identified as Forget Nsingo, died instantly during the night on 8th Street in the Midlands provincial capital.
His wife, Rufaro Savanhu, 22, discovered the body Tuesday morning and alerted police.
The couple and their two children, aged three and four, had been sleeping on the veranda.
Officers from Gweru Central Police Station found the body lying in a pool of blood with the left side of the head crushed.
A blood-stained stone weighing approximately 5kgs was recovered next to the victim.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said investigations revealed that Nsingo had quarrelled with a drinking companion known only as Terrence shortly before the murder.
"Terrence also lives on the streets of the CBD and is now the prime suspect," Mahoko said in a statement.
He appealed to members of the public with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact Gweru Central Police Station or the nearest police post.
