Harare, Zimbabwe - Zimbabwe's football giants Dynamos and Highlanders secured their spots in the country's elite league on a nail-biting d-day of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League bottom teams, avoiding relegation that claimed Yadah, Greenfuel, Kwekwe United and Bikita Minerals on Sunday, November 23.
The 2025 season concluded with eight clubs fighting for survival as three relegation spots of the four were still open, with Kwekwe United already out.
Dynamos, starting the day precariously close to the relegation zone with 38 points, earned a crucial goalless draw against former PSL Champions, FC Platinum at Rufaro Stadium.
The point lifted them to a safer 13th place finish with 39 points, putting two points between them and the trapdoor.
Highlanders, who were also in danger on 39 points, had to come from behind in their match against Chicken Inn FC at Barbourfields in Bulawayo.
A first-half Chicken Inn goal was cancelled out by a second-half free-kick from substitute Andrew Mbeba, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
This vital point secured 11th spot for the Bulawayo giants.Chicken Inn also avoided relegation, finishing in 12th place after sharing the spoils.
Meanwhile, Triangle United guaranteed their safety by managing a timely 1-1 draw at Greenfuel, securing the Chipinge side's hopes for a last-minute escape.
The league proceeded with four clubs facing relegation, despite a recent vote by the PSL to temporarily halt the process, a proposal that was ultimately rejected by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to maintain the competition’s integrity.
Kwekwe United’s fate was sealed early, having been mathematically relegated since October after a dismal season where they only accumulated 10 points from 34 games, marking a swift return to the second tier Central Region Soccer League following their promotion last year.
The season finale confirmed the other three relegated teams.Yadah was sent down to 17th place on 35 points following a 1-0 loss to third-placed Simba Bhora in Chiredzi; Greenfuel (37 points) fell to 15th position after a home draw with Triangle; and Bikita Minerals (37 points) dropped to 16th after losing 1-0 to Manica Diamonds.
